Executive Council

The Executive Council of the Zambia National Laboratory Association (ZNLA) provides strategic direction, governance oversight, and leadership in alignment with the ZNLA Constitution and the Societies Act 2006.

Preamble

The Zambia National Laboratory Association (ZNLA), established under the Societies Act 2006, operates under the direction and control of a governing Council known as the ZNLA Council.

ZNLA is a representative association of laboratories and individuals who support industry and the local economy. The scope of ZNLA activities is determined by the Council and may be adjusted to accommodate national, regional, and international requirements in accordance with the ZNLA Constitution.

Role of the Executive Council

The Executive Council provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Association. It is responsible for guiding policy direction, supporting institutional development, and ensuring alignment with the objectives of ZNLA.

Council Members

Ray Mfuta Kamekela. BSc,MSc, PgD

ZNLA President.

Ray Mfuta Kamekela is a consultant specializing in Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Trade Facilitation, with over a decade of experience in laboratory science and quality infrastructure development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Zambia and a Master of Science in Project Management from the Copperbelt University.

Ray has supported regulatory bodies and laboratories in implementing ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures.

As ZNLA President, he is committed to advancing sustainable quality infrastructure and strengthening Zambia's laboratory systems.

Winter Mwape

ZNLA Vice President.

Winter Mwape has over two decades of experience in health and analytical laboratories within the mining sector. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Sustainable Development and is a certified ISO standards auditor and consultant. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Sciences.

He also serves as National Treasurer for the Chemical Society of Zambia and advocates for professional excellence and international standards implementation.

Thandiwe Phiri Kalela

ZNLA Treasurer, is the Quality Manager at Rankin Engineering Consultants.

Thandiwe Phiri Kalela is a quality management professional with over 14 years of experience in laboratory science and quality assurance. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Zambia and has extensive experience implementing ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001 systems within civil materials testing laboratories.

As ZNLA Treasurer, she supports financial stewardship and institutional strengthening within ZNLA.

Sarah Shawa Mumba

ZNLA Secretary General is the Certification Manager at Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS).

Sarah Shawa Mumba has over 19 years of experience in conformity assessment and accredited certification scheme management. She oversees ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17021-1 accredited certification schemes and holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (Management Strategy).

As ZNLA Secretary General, she brings strategic leadership and a strong commitment to quality and standards development in Zambia.

Golden Zyambo

ZNLA Council Member is the Chief Scientist at the School of Veterinary Medicine - University of Zambia.

Golden Zyambo has over three decades of experience in toxicological analysis, food safety, and laboratory science education. He holds a Master of Science in Toxicology and has multiple international certifications in forensic science and laboratory sciences. He contributes significant expertise in analytical techniques, laboratory management, and research excellence.
